Can you believe it is already July‽ It was such a gorgeous weather day in Vancouver for Canada Day. Next up is the 4th of July. Are you taking time to relax or get away this summer?

I love writing, and my goal has been to write a blog every two weeks, and I was doing great until April with all of the last-minute planning for the EmpowerHer Workshop. I was hoping to be back on track after my last blog, and well, as you can see, I haven’t (insert the face-palm emoji).

So what have I been doing with my time? I’ve been working with clients, following up on their progress, and attending continuing education webinars. I also had major wifi issues which took some time to get straightened out, that is a real test of patience, especially when it takes almost a week to get fixed. It is also very inconvenient when I can’t access the applications I need for my business.

I also had the opportunity to visit my aunt Linda in Kelowna and spend time with my cousins, always a lot of fun. That was a very impromptu trip and planned with very short notice, I’m so glad I was able to make it work. I sometimes forget my age which makes me forget the age of my family, especially my aunts because they are healthy and very active. Two years ago, I assumed one of my younger aunts would be around for many years to come, she was the same age as my brother. She suddenly passed away a few months before her 70th birthday, it was a shock because we all thought she was in great health. In 2022, I made a trip back east and if I had visited her, it would have meant adding on almost a week to my trip. I told her I would come back that away again and make sure to visit her. Needless to say, I was heartbroken with my decision. Tomorrow is never guaranteed.

I’m making sure I’m getting in my lifting workouts because I want to reach my next bench press goal of 65 pounds by my birthday in August. I’ve also set a goal to walk an average of 8000 steps a day, much easier in the summer.

Summer can also be a tempting time to indulge in various goodies such as ice cream, one of my weaknesses. It doesn’t help that there are more places close to me that offer gelato and ice cream. Going for a walk in my neighbourhood is a test of my willpower with all of the delicious gluten-free options and now multiple ice cream shops. How do I stay on track? I make sure I have my meals planned out and I am getting in the amount of protein and fibrous vegetables I need each day.

You might be saying to yourself, it’s summer, enjoy! I do on occasion, and that is what these are meant to be, occasional free-choice foods. And truth be told, with all of the fresh local berries and cherries at the farmer’s market, I’d rather have those. Plus I am eating as many local veggies as I can, they taste so good! I’ve also decided to enjoy the summer. I will be away for a few days visiting my friend Heidi at a cabin in the Fraser Valley and then my friend Rachelle is coming from Winnipeg to visit for a few days. I know there will be a lot of good laughs with both friends.

So will I have time to write blogs? I will but I’m not going to commit to a schedule for the next few months but I will eventually continue my series for men in helping them understand what women experience in menopause. I’ll surprise you suddenly and show up in your inbox.

Some exciting news! Estie Gonzalez and I are planning our next EmpowerHer workshop at VanDusen Garden, the tentative date is September 29, 2024. I will update you once we confirm the date.

Have a great summer! My wish for you is that your days are filled with friends, family, laughter, fun and sharing delicious food with them when the opportunity arises.

Thank you for reading my words.
